Symbol Of Peace

A bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi is located under a banyan tree near the Honolulu Zoo in Waikiki. Gandhi’s statue is a symbol of peace, nonviolence, equality, justice and freedom. It reminds us that peace is possible even in the midst of turmoil.  The figure of the Hindu spiritual leader, in sandals and strutting with his walking stick. The statue was donated to Honolulu by the Gandhi Memorial International Foundation, a non-profit group run by Yogesh K Gandhi.  The statue was designed by Stephen C. Lowe, was installed in Kapi'olani Park on October 27, 1990.
